Solve problems with payments

If you're having issues with payments on Coursera, find your problem below.

I submitted a payment but it's not showing up

If you submitted a payment, check your My Purchases page to see if it went through.

If a payment you made doesn't show up in your purchases, check your bank statement to see if the payment was processed by your bank.

If your bank has a record of the purchase, but it's not appearing on Coursera, check to see if you have a different Coursera account.

I get an error when I try to pay

If Coursera can't process your payment, try:

  • Making sure you're using an approved payment method. Debit cards, pre-paid or gift cards, and PayPal may not work for certain types of payments or from certain countries.
  • Using a different browser or device
  • Clearing your cache and cookies

I want to cancel a payment

Subscription payments can't be canceled or refunded, but you can cancel your subscription to prevent future charges. Some one-time payments can be refunded.

I need an extension to earn my Certificate before my payment expires

If you made a non-subscription payment for a Coursera course, you have 180 days from your payment to complete all the coursework and earn your Certificate. Within those 180 days, you can switch sessions and take the course as many times as you want.

You can see how many days you have left on a course payment by checking your My Purchases page. If your payment expires before you finish all the coursework, you’ll need to pay for the course again to earn a Certificate.

Unfortunately, Coursera cannot grant extensions or exceptions. If you're subscribed to a Specialization, you will be able to access the course for as long as your Specialization subscription is active.

My payment expired, but I still want my Certificate

If you pay for a Coursera course but don’t earn your Certificate within 180 days or during your active subscription, your payment will expire. If you want to complete the course and earn your Certificate after your payment expires, you’ll need to pay for the course again.You can see where your payments will expire on your My Purchases page. Unfortunately, Coursera is unable to grant extensions or exceptions.

I paid for a course but it hasn't started yet

If you paid for a course that hasn’t launched yet, you can request a refund. If you are subscribed to a Specialization and have reached a course that hasn’t launched yet, you can cancel your subscription until the course opens.

I paid for a course or Specialization, but I'm being asked to pay again

If you pay for a Coursera course but don’t earn your Certificate within 180 days, your payment will expire. If you pay for year-long access to a Specialization, your payment will expire after a year. You can see when your payments will expire on your My Purchases page.

If you want to complete a course or Specialization and earn your Certificate after your payment expires, you’ll need to pay for the course again. Unfortunately, Coursera cannot grant extensions or exceptions.

I want to transfer payment to another course

Unfortunately, Coursera cannot transfer payments across different courses.

My credit card was charged twice for a Coursera payment

Signing up for a Free Trial may cause a small "test charge" to be made to your account, which will be refunded automatically. If you are concerned about a double charge from Coursera, please contact us so we can resolve the issue.

My monthly subscription payments aren't working

If you sign up for a Coursera subscription, your credit card will be charged monthly until you cancel the subscription. If there’s a problem with the monthly charge, we’ll email you.

To solve problems with monthly credit card charges:

  • Update your credit card information in your Account Settings. Make sure everything is correct and up to date.
  • Make sure you are using an approved form of payment.
  • Make sure you have enough funds in your account to pay the monthly subscription fee.
  • Contact your bank to troubleshoot any problems with your credit card or account.

My subscription was canceled

If we cannot charge your credit card, your subscription will automatically be canceled. To re-subscribe, update your credit card information in your Account Settings and make sure you're using an approved form of payment.

You can re-subscribe once your most recent billing period has ended. The subscription status on your My Purchases page will say "Inactive".
